In lavender silk, with embroidered bat and peaches in whimsical shades of blue. The throat of the shoe is decorated with woven ribbon and braid trims, the sole trimmed in woven ribbons also has metal pegs for traction. The women of Datong held a yearly contest on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month in which they celebrated footbinding. Tiny footed women would gather at the temples in large numbers to display and admire each others shoes. Early 20th century.
